On a recent trip to the UK, I obtained this recording of a Coal Tit displaying to and mating with a female. Initially, the male chased the female through vegetation, twittering and singing brief song phrases. Then, as he drew alongside the female, a quite remarkable extended song (lasting over 40s) was sung with wing fluttering and at one point a brief copulation.
(April, Herts)
Sonagrams of the song from 19-42s:
normal song phrase at 23s
For comparison, this is a typical song by a Coal Tit.
